Response to Covid-19 during the school year 2020-2021

In Poland schools opened on 1 September 2020.

According to the Ministry, 99.83% of kindergartens, schools and educational institutions provide full-time education, 53 schools and institutions teach remotely, and in 29 schools learning takes place in a hybrid mode.

Minister Dariusz Piontkowski presented guidelines for schools and institutions developed jointly with the Chief Sanitary Inspector and the Minister of Health, which are in force from September 1st, 2020. They apply to the organization of the work of schools and institutions, including students with special educational needs.

The guidelines contain general and specific recommendations related to the organization of classes at school, distribution of meals, hygiene, cleaning, disinfection of rooms and surfaces, handling of suspected infections among students and school staff.

The main guideline is to strictly follow basic hygiene rules: frequent hand washing, protection when sneezing and coughing, avoiding touching the eyes, nose and mouth, mandatory covering of the mouth and nose by third parties coming to school or institution, regular cleaning of the premises. Students in class do not need to wear face masks. It is recommended that schoolwork is organized and coordinated in such a way as to keep distance between students.

Depending on the evolution of the pandemic, alternatives scenarios have also been prepared with Option B offering a hybrid approach, mix of face to face and remote learning, and Option C switching to full time remote learning.
