Switzerland Back
Response to Covid-19 during the school year 2020-2021
In Switzerland schools started opening between 10 August to 7 September 2020.
Depending on the canton different measures have applied, but strict hygiene protocols for both students and the school environment, social distancing and different routes within schools have been imperative.
In the schools of the city of Zurich, all adults (school staff, members of the authorities, parents and third parties) in the school buildings of the city's primary school (including the city's special schools) are required to wear a mask.
Some schools in Switzerland use tape on floors to mark adequate space between desks. To further limit contact, many Swiss schools reduced class sizes by 50 percent.
The evolution of the pandemic is followed up closely by each canton and adaptations might occur if needed.
