On 11 May the 3rd grade of the upper secondary schools has returned to schools. On 18 May, from 7th to 11th grades will also return to school. Primary schools and kindergartens will open, under certain conditions, on the 1st of June.
The Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs implements distance education, since 16 March, in collaboration with CISCO WebEx, with top priority for upper secondary schools due to the National Exams on June, initially in a pilot basis exclusively for two Greek regions. Nevertheless, since 3 April, distance education has expanded nationwide to all levels of primary, secondary and VET education.
The Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs has structured distance education through three methods:
1. "Asynchronous" teaching, which is not in real-time. It is compulsory, with every teacher expected to upload their lessons and assignments, supported by resources, such as interactive textbooks (e-books) and other learning materials (which are collected in an aggregator called Photodendro) as well as digital lesson plans (Aesop) and digital educational complementary resources (study4exams). Two digital educational platforms, e-me and e-class for students and teachers.
2. "Synchronous" teaching, which is real-time teaching, supported through CISCO Webex services through the School Network’s lessons.sch.gr platform.
3. Daily classes for primary education broadcasted by the Greek State Television and Radio (ERT) in collaboration with the Department of Educational Radiotelevision of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs.
In the context of autonomy and greater flexibility of the school units, each headmaster forms the programme of distance learning, with the possibility of using a combination of the three above methods.
Greek higher education institutions have launched distance learning classes since 16 March, using digital tools (such as Skype for Business, Zoom, and CISCO Webex), collaborative digital tools (Google and Microsoft), live-streaming lecture platforms (such as Open Delos and Youtube Live) and e-class applications.
