Response to Covid-19 during the school year 2020-2021

In Slovenia schools opened on 1 September 2020.

The National Education Institute of the Republic of Slovenia has published a brochure on education in the Republic of Slovenia related to Covid-19, which describes the envisaged models (green, yellow and red) and recommendations. "Everything has been written in a vital, feasible and coordinated manner in coordination with all those in charge of implementation," the Minister prof. dr. Simona Kustec said. "We have found solutions that will not be threatened by any virus. The virus must not prevent the fundamental mission of upbringing and education: the acquisition of knowledge, socialization and learning for life.

Classes where cases were established are being quarantined and are mostly switching to remote learning. Schools with cases have remained open, an exception being a primary school in Braslovče where both the kindergarten and school were closed after four positive cases.

Response to Covid-19 during the school year 2019-2020

Kindergartens and certain grades in primary and secondary schools across the country gradually reopened as of 18 May 2020, and the number of children and students per classroom will be restricted.

During the lockdown

By the end of March, and with only a few exceptions, all primary and secondary schools were providing distance education.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, in cooperation with the Institute for Education of the Republic of Slovenia, obtained school data on the number of pupils and students who do not have a computer at home and no internet connection. Schools are requested to temporarily lend such equipment to students (such as computers, tablets), which are currently not in use at the schools, for the duration of the emergency measures.

The Slovenian Educational Networks opened online classrooms for schools (Arnes classrooms) and provided webinars for less experienced teachers. In order to unify the content of the teaching material, the Ministry worked closely with experts from the Institute of Education, where they produced videos with recommendations for distance education teachers.
